JEFFERSON COUNTY,Ohio —
The Jefferson County Board of Health has voted to approve a 2012 operating license for the controversial Apex landfill in Amsterdam.
Apex made headlines several times this year after a number of citations and residents complaints of a terrible smell in the area.
According to a news release, a license was issued after Apex came to an agreement with the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency ahead of tomorrow’s deadline to fix the odor and other issues.
Health department administrator Bruce Misselwitz says in the release that Apex has agreed to substantially reduce odor problems by the end of March.
The board could still revoke the license at any time if the problems are not corrected.
