Jefferson Co. Commission again discusses possible purchasing Steubenville building

By NEWS9

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ohio —

The Jefferson County Commission is once again discussing a possible purchase of the Jefferson Towers building in Steubenville.

The topic came up at Thursday's regular commission meeting.

The county is debating the idea of purchasing the building to move a number of departments and services to one location. Commissioners said they anticipate that the move could save the county thousands of dollars.

The commissioners accepted a letter from the prosecutor's office outlining what they need to do to legally finalize the deal.

"What he's giving us is advice based on those pieces of revised code that the attorney general (has) about commissioners' purchases of property. So if we follow his recommendations, we'll be in compliance," said Commissioner Dave Maple.

Currently, the letter is just the first step of the purchase process. Nothing is binding as of Thursday.
