JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ohio —

A Jefferson County man must pay back more than $25,000 for worker’s compensation fraud.

According to the Ohio Bureau Of Workers Compensation, Thomas Piatt, of Empire, was injured at work and was getting benefits.

But an audit found that between 2006 and 2008, Piatt was also doing construction and remodeling work while still getting a check from the state.

Piatt pleaded guilty to worker’s compensation fraud and a judge ordered him to pay the money back. He was also sentenced to 12 months probation.
