Job Cuts At Harrison County Jail

Harrison County Sheriff Mark Miller said five jobs are being cut at the jail March 14 due to cuts in the budget.

The cuts include three correction officers, along with a dispatcher and a school resource officer.

As of March, the jail will only hold inmates for eight to 12 hours, until they go to court, then they will be shipped to other counties.

These cuts will also affect the litter program, which saved the county more than $56,000 last year. Miller said he won’t go after a jail levy. He said it’s not fair to the taxpayers.

These five job cuts are just the beginning, according to the sheriff. He said more cuts are inevitable with the way the budget is growing.
