Terry Bickerstaff, 24, is accused of killing Darrell Longmire, 21, in March.
Defense Attorney Steven Stickles asked the court to have his client's case moved out of Jefferson County because of pre-trial publicity.
A worker in Judge Joseph Bruzzese's office said the judge would consider moving the trial if they had a difficult time picking a jury.
If convicted, Bickerstaff could spend the rest of his life in prison.
