Juvenile Sentenced As Adult In Sexual Abuse Case

Seventeen-year-old Christopher Cooper pleaded no contest to three charges of first degree sexual abuse against a minor.

Now, Cooper's setencing, originally scheduled for today, is moved at the request of his defense attorney.

According to assistant prosecutor Joe Barki, this change is a big inconvenience to the victim and his family.

"It was a difficult case because it was a juvenile who was transferred to adult jurisdiction, which takes a while in and of itself, " said Barki. "The family just needs to get closure to the case and that's what sentencing will bring."

The prosecution will be ready June 5 when Cooper appears in court again.

"We're here to do a job and we can come whenever we're needed but the victim's family really needs closure in this matter," said Barki.

When Cooper goes before the judge, he could be sentenced to one to 15 years behind bars.
