ST. CLAIRSVILLE, Ohio —

Burglars forced their way into King’s Jewelry at the Ohio Valley Mall early Friday morning and got away with several items, according to officials with the Belmont County Sheriff’s Office.

Officials have yet to release exactly what was taken from the store.

The incident happened around 4:00 a.m. when a front window was broken out of the main entrance to the mall. A second window was then broken to gain entry to the store.

“Upon out arrival, our units noticed there was forced entry on the outside of the mall as well as the interior,” said Sgt. Glenn Moore from the Belmont County Sheriff’s Office. “Several cases were broken into inside [the store] and [there were] several missing items.”

Ohio Valley Mall Property Manager George Diab said that mall security guards were the first to notice that someone had broken into the store and they reported the incident to police. Diab said a security alarm inside the store was also activated.

Police from several agencies, including the Belmont County Sheriff’s Office and the Ohio BCI&I remained at the scene collecting evidence until 10:30 a.m. Friday Morning.

Sgt. Moore said investigators were able to take pictures and collect finger and foot prints that will be used during the investigation.

Moore also stated that several different surveillance cameras could have caught the incident and that the department would be reviewing the video on Friday as it began the investigation of the crime.

George Diab would not comment on specific security features at the mall, but did say they there are several security cameras. Diab could not say if the cameras inside the mall captured any images of the suspects, but he did say that video was turned over the sheriff’s office for review.

The Ohio Valley Mall opened at 10:00 a.m Friday as scheduled despite a continued police presence. The mall will close at 6:00 p.m. as planned.

Diab said that King’s Jewelers will remain closed, but other stores should be open as normal.
