Laid-off Steelworkers Get Help

Many laid-off workers at Severstal Wheeling are eligible for assistance under the federal trade program.

The program was created in 1974 to assist workers who have lost their jobs as a result of increased foreign imports.

The government decided the laid-off Severstal workers fit the description and are eligible for the benefits.

The trade program can provide job search allowances, relocation allowances as well as academic training.

Henry Kosikowski, a steelworker for 38 years, says he is willing to go back to school if he has to. However, Kosikowski is still hoping things get turned around at the mill and he gets called back to work.
