Landfill Inspection

Officials with the Environmental Protection Agency were at the site of the Apex landfill Friday. The landfill, which is partially located in Amsterdam, Jefferson County, needs the approval of the EPA to begin operations. The landfill wants to collect trash from Ohio as well as other states. When the idea of the landfill was first presented it was met with a lot of opposition, but some people are now accepting the idea. Ruth Ann Miller can see the landfill site from her backyard and says there is no point fighting the landfill coming, "It has to be in someone's backyard so I've just sort of resigned to that. I just have to accept the fact that I guess that's what we're going to have." The EPA says it will be a few days before they issue their findings from Fridays inspection.
