Landslide Continues To Threaten Family's Home

Just a few weeks ago, a landslide stopped short of wiping out a family's house out on the Belmont-Monroe county line in Powhatan Point.

EMA officials advised the family to abandoned their home out of safety concerns.

Wednesday afternoon we checked back in with the family to see how their home was doing and how the family was holding up.

"Right over there, a big tree that has slipped and a big border and everything is moving more. If you walk back up in there you can see how it's getting wider and the slip is moving down gradually," said homeowner Tina Boger.

The landslide forced the family out of their home, and they are now living with relatives. But, they are having a hard time coming to grips with it all.

"It's heartbreaking. Especially this is our home, and my eldest son is very upset about everything. I think that is the toughest is the kids," said Boger.

They are not only seeing the effects of the landslide outside of their home, but also inside. It's easy to pick out the damage throughout the home caused by the land moving beneath them. Cracks lined the walls of the basement. Some of the cracks are large enough you can see through the outside.

"They already told us that there is no stopping it because if they try and reroute the slip, it's just going to make everything move faster, so hopefully we find answers soon," said Boger.
