Jefferson County, OH —

Money is something every school relies on, but for some they are seeing less and less. More and more they are going to the voters. That is no different for the Buckeye Local School District and Superintendent Mark Miller.

The district is seeking a 2-mill permanent improvement levy.

"We are going to buy things that have a permanent nature such as buses, books, and renovations to our buildings like concrete, roofs, things of that nature," Miller said. "Things that are going to last more than five years. That's why it's called a 'permanent improvement levy.'"

Miller acknowledges that there are other districts in worse shape, but he wants to prevent buckeye local from going down the same path.

"The new high school is behind me and it's over 20 years old, we have elementary schools that were built in the 1930s," Miller said. "Just like your own home they have painting, heating and wiring issues, things of that nature."

Miller said while some will go to buildings. A good portion will go towards books, buses, and new technology all things that will benefit the students.

"This money is for the children, this money cannot be used for salaries or health care benefits," Miller said. "Just for renovations, things of that nature."
