Limestone VFD closes temporarily

By Philip Stahl

MARSHALL COUNTY, W.Va. –

The Limestone Volunteer Fire Department, located in the center of Marshall County has temporarily ceased day-to-day operations.

"There seems to be an issue with workers compensation. The department switched to a new insurance agency," said Marshall County EMA Director Tom Hart.

Details on the issue with workers compensation and the insurance agency were minimal.

However, Hart assured that the area that Limestone VFD calls will still be handled by other departments.

"Until this issue gets resolved, Moundsville, Dallas, Cameron and Sherrard fire departments are all expanding their coverage area," said Hart.

Hart also said that rumors that the department was going to close for good are not true.

"They are the third largest department in the county. There is no way they are shutting down," said Hart.

When the department will be back open is still unknown, but officials maintain it was just temporary.

Hart also said that this is just the fire department that is affected. The Limestone Emergency Medical Services is a separate entity, and it is operating as normal.
