Litterbugs Beware: New Public Punishment

Tommy Lashare walked the streets of Bridgeport, Ohio, Wednesday as part of the village's new program seeking to prevent littering.

The village of Bridgeport now has a new way to try and keep people from littering, and Lashare is the first local man to experience the fledgling punishment.

Now, people ticketed for littering in the village have the option of wearing a sign that speaks out against littering and walking from street to street spreading the anti-litterbug message.

For people like Lashare, ticketed for throwing a cigarette butt on the sidewalk, this new option can now take the place of jail time, community service or a $500 fine.

Lashare wore the sign and walked the streets of the village spreading the anti-littering message for a total of 16 hours.
