MARSHALL COUNTY, W.Va. –
John Marshall's outdoor running track has taken quiet a beating, both from regular wear and tear and from Mother Nature.
“The whole top layer of the track in a large area is completely rolled up and is off the blacktop surface,” said Marshall County Schools Assistant Superintendent Wayne Simms.
Sims says the Board of Education will have to decide soon what to do with the deteriorating track and the repair job will cost thousands.
“The board will need to decide soon if we want to temporarily fix it or replace it altogether. We are discussing all sorts of avenues right now,” said Simms.
Whether or not the track season will be postponed or canceled is undetermined. However, Simms remains optimistic it will happen.
In the meantime, the board voted to put bids out to resod John Marshall and Cameron high schools’ football fields.
“They are getting bad. This year, they played in some spots with no grass,” said Simms. “We will be taking the current layer of soil off, adding a drainage system to both and reseeding them. We’ll be good to go for football season this fall.”
