Local girl wins championship derby in Akron

AKRON, Ohio —

A Belmont County girl won first place at the championship soap box derby in Akron, Ohio Saturday.

Kallie Myers, 17, of St. Clairsville, competed in the Local Super Stock Division at the 75th FirstEnergy All-American Soap Box Derby World Championship.

More than 500 boys and girls from ages 8 to 17 across the country raced at the Derby Downs track.

In addition to winning the title, Myers was awarded $45,000 in scholarships.
