Jefferson Co. election officials hold post-election audit

By NEWS9

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ohio —

Elections officials in Jefferson County are holding a post-election audit.

Officials said the purpose of Thursday's audit is to make sure everything adds up and all numbers are accurate.

The board must count 5 percent of the total ballots cast by hand and compare them to the official count. That process will be done for the presidential race, the races for justice of the Supreme Court and county commissioners race.

"We do have to report everything that happens to the state. If there are discrepancies --which in the past there have not been -- there is form we have to complete and send to the state," said Board of Elections director Diane Gribble.

With more than 1,000 ballots to count, officials said the audit was expected to take several hours to complete.
