WINTERSVILLE, Ohio —

Former President Bill Clinton spoke at Indian Creek High School in Wintersville as part of President Barack Obama's reelection campaign.

In the school’s gymnasium, Clinton drew distinctions between the Democrats' and Republicans' plans for the economy, health care, education and energy.

He said Ohio voters should support Obama because the president supported them and took steps to save the auto industry that employs so many in the state. That echoed Clinton's comments earlier Thursday at a suburban Cleveland rally with musician Bruce Springsteen.

Springsteen didn't visit Wintersville, but former Gov. Ted Strickland was there to help fire up the audience.  Strickland said, "A coal miner voting for Mitt Romney is like a chicken voting for Colonel Sanders."

Both Obama and GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney have accelerated their Ohio campaigning in the past two weeks.

Obama headed to Ohio University in Athens on Wednesday, his third time in the state this month. First lady Michelle Obama has visited Ohio twice this month, and Vice President Joe Biden is headed back next week.

On the Republican ticket, Romney and running mate Paul Ryan have led rallies in Ohio in seven of the last 10 days.
