CHARLESTON, W.Va. —

It's deadline time for eligible West Virginians to make sure they can vote this year.

New voters must register by Tuesday to cast ballots in the Nov. 6 general election.

County clerks and the Secretary of State's office will accept voter applications on Tuesday. Residents can also apply by mail, but must have those postmarked by Tuesday.

The Secretary of State's website, www.sos.wv.gov, has details on what new voters need to register.

Existing voters can also check their registration through that site and look up their polling place.

Voting is already under way in West Virginia. Just more than 3,000 of the state's 1.2 million registered voters returned absentee ballots by Monday.

Early in-person voting begins Oct. 24 and lasts until Nov. 3. That early voting period includes two Saturdays.
