JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ohio —

Jefferson County Judge Joseph Bruzzese has asked the Ohio Supreme Court to appoint a visiting judge for next month's grand jury investigating the teen rape trial.

The letter from Bruzzese to the high court was dated March 14, prior to when a visiting judge reached his verdict in the trial.

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine officially announced his request for a grand jury on Sunday, within minutes of the verdict that found Trent Mays and Ma’lik Richmond delinquent in the August rape of a teen girl.

Bruzzese’s letter reads in part, “Nameless bloggers, while having produced no evidence of a cover-up have managed to assemble quite a following locally, nationally and internationally. For this reason, I believe that no local officials should have anything to do with the grand jury proceedings proposed by the attorney general."

The grand jury is expected to convene on or around April 15.
