Local Road To Remain Closed Indefinitely

A local road remained closed on Monday after a hillside continued to slip away for the fifth day.

Kilgore Road near Bridgeport has been slipping away since Thursday.

Tye Justice of the Belmont County Engineering Department said crews are preparing for another big mess.

Justice said engineers expect the hill to slip again and pull more trees onto the roadway.

He said crews will attempt to pull some of the foliage and debris down, but added: "Our thoughts are that we are going to leave the road closed, especially with the rain coming."

Rain could not only cause the trees to fall but could also cause a problem for a township road that sits above.

He said it is still not known when the road will reopen.
