3 Steubenville High School athletes suspended from extra curricular activities

By Natalie Herbick

Jefferson County, Ohio

Steubenville City Schools Superintendent Mike McVey said Monday, three high school athletes are suspended from all extra-curricular activities until further notice.

McVey said the school is conducing an investigation into possible violations of board policies and school rules.

He said the facts came to their attention on Friday following the probable cause hearing of two high school athletes charged with rape.

The three students facing that suspension are the three that took the witness stand during the hearing.

McVey said two of the teens are football players and are not permitted to play any games for the time being.

NEWS9 is not releasing their names because they are juveniles.

A third teen, Anthony Craig, 18 is a wrestler. Wrestling is not yet in season.

McVey said the principal met with all of their parents on Monday.

NEWS9 asked what violations could be in question, but McVey said he could not release any further comments on the internal investigation.

News9 previously reported on what those teens testified to in open court. Their testimony is linked to the story from Friday's probable cause hearing.
