City Council looks to install security system

By Philip Stahl

MOUNDSVILLE, W.Va. –

Moundsville City Council is looking to install a new security system at the city building within the next few weeks.

“Every since the police department moved down the street, the majority of council felt that we needed some security in the building. Especially during council meetings,” said Vice Mayor Gene Saunders.

The police department moved out of the building last year to Tomlinson Avenue in order to accommodate their growing needs.

Now the council with the recommendation of City Manager Deanna Hess, will look to spend just over $1,000 to install cameras, alarms and panic buttons in certain offices should the need police presence.

“There were some council meetings that the police chief had to escort people out because they got irate. Hopefully, with this new system, including the panic buttons that will buzz police in an instant, will make people feel safer working in the building,” said Saunders.

Council will meet this coming Tuesday to decide the next step in the plan.
