Rockslide on Rt. 7 damages vehicles in Jefferson Co.

By NEWS9

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ohio --

At least two vehicles were damaged when a hillside gave way along state Route 7 in Jefferson County.

Dispatchers said the rockslide happened Tuesday just after 3 a.m. near the location of another rockfall that happened about two weeks ago. That slide also damaged several cars and restricted traffic.

The rockfall forced the officials to close the southbound lanes of state Route 7 and one northbound lane near Brilliant. By 9:30 a.m., both northbound lanes and one southbound lane north of Brilliant had reopened to traffic.

Officials with the Ohio Department of Transportation said the southbound lane remains closed and is part of a work zone already established by ODOT contractor James White Construction Co. of Weirton.
