OHIO COUNTY, W.Va.—

The Wheeling-Ohio County Health Department is warning people to be cautious about purchasing food, especially meat by people going door-to-door selling it.

"It happened to me. Someone knocked on my door and wanted to sell me meat. When I asked if they had a health permit, they said no, and left," said County Health Administrator Howard Gamble.

Gamble said that anyone selling something like meat needs to have a permit by the health department.

"There is always the concern that items like meat were not refrigerated properly, and if you buy something like this from someone going door-to-door without a permit, you could get sick," said Gamble.

He said anyone selling anything foodwise door-to-door is to have a permit and should present it if anyone inquires about it.
