BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio —

What started out as a normal drive for one Belmont County couple quickly turned into anything but that.

Like usual, Michael Perry said he stopped to look at the cattle that he usually passes by on County Road 4.

"I always check to see. So I said to Jeannette, 'There's two little cows sitting there and a little buffalo over there. I wonder where the big one is,'" Perry said, recounting his routine stop.

After continuing down the road a little farther, sure enough, they found the big one.

"He was charging us. We were within 10 to 15 feet of 2,000 pounds of attitude. It was a trip. We called 911 to report it that something is going on," Perry and his fiancée Jeannette said.

We spoke with both the Belmont County Sheriff's Office and the Martins Ferry Police Department and neither had much information about the buffalo on the run, but they did say it somehow escaped from the farm along County Road 4.

"I looked in my rear-view mirror and it was still running after us down through the yard trying to catch us," Jeannette said.

But when we drove by the farm, it appeared the buffalo had already been rounded up.

"Where else in Ohio can you get chased by a buffalo at 8:30 in the morning? The buffalo is the American symbol of freedom. Get it back to its owner without destroying the animal," said Perry.
