BROOKE COUNTY, Ohio

A bizarre and cannibalistic episode in Florida made national headlines after a naked man attacked another man, biting and eating parts of his face.

Police said his actions are symptoms of drug-induced psychosis, a condition landing a growing number of people in the hospitals.

It is linked to a dangerous designer drug that local law enforcement is also trying to combat.

Bath salts cause body temperatures to spike, and that is why people rip off their clothes.

The designer drugs are hitting communities across the country.

Just a few weeks ago, Weirton police said  woman who had taken bath salts walked into the Kmart in Weirton and took of her clothes.

Hancock Brooke Weirton Drug Task Force agent Mark Simala described the drugs as a combination between a stimulant like meth and a hallucinogenic like Ecstasy.

While there have not been any local deaths that Simala is aware of, he said they have dealt with a lot of overdoses.

Simala said it is the drug's powerful ingredients than can produce deadly effects.

"There are certain manufacturers that are basically street chemists that pretty much make this stuff up, and they'll put it in a packet. Usually, the packet will say not 'Not for human consumption consumption' or Novelty item'" said Simala.

While some of the chemicals used to make bath salts were banned by the Senate last week, Simala said it's still easy for people to get their hands on the drugs.

He said Harrison County,  W.Va., leads the nation in bath salts overdoses.
