Ohio Co. Schools looks to replace all school bus radios

By Philip Stahl

OHIO COUNTY, W.Va.—

The Ohio County Board of Education plans to decide with a vote whether or not to purchase new digital radios for all school buses and tie them in with the County Commissions radio towers.

"Right now there are a lot of areas in the county that have dead zones with our current analog radio system. If we do this, it will increase our communication abilities with school buses," said Assistant Superintendent Bernie Dolan.

Dolan said that that each school would get a radio as well so that they could monitor, or even talk to bus drivers when students are arriving or dismissing from school.

"We can also tie into the state radio system, so if we take a trip to Charleston, we can radio back on the bus as if we are in Wheeling," said Dolan.

The board will vote on the matter later this month.
