Oil, gas well explodes

By Adam Del Rosso

TUSCARAWAS COUNTY, Ohio —

Crews are investigating a fire at an oil well tank in Tuscarawas County after it went into flames Friday morning.

According to the Gnadenhutten Fire Department, the fire broke out just before 11 a.m. at the intersection of River Road Southwest and Williams Road Southwest.

Upon arrival, crews found that one tank had exploded, sending the lid about 100 yards away.

According to a news release, it took 21 personnel one hour to put out the flames which sent smoke high enough to be visible from as far away as Urichsville. Crews used a nearby lake and tanker trucks to shuttle water to the scene.

There is no word yet on how the blaze started. The state's fire marshal is working with Artex Oil Company, the owner of that tank, and law enforcement to find a cause.

No one was injured.
