BROOKE COUNTY, W.Va. —
BROOKE COUNTY, W.Va.
NEWS9 confirmed that an employee of a company contracted to work at a Chesapeake Energy drilling site had to be taken by ambulance to the hospital after an accident on Genteel Ridge.
The site sits on private property and it appears the person was unloading equipment when their leg got stuck between a forklift and a piece of equipment.
A medical helicopter was initially called in but it was later determined it would not be needed.
The man’s name or his condition has not been released.
Preparation work recently wrapped up and the drilling rig came in this week.
Sheriff Richard Ferguson said even those who don't work on a drilling site in the area need to be on alert over the next several months. He says well activity will be increasing just as kids will be out of school for the summer. In a statement Ferguson released on Thursday, he said,
"I urge parents and guardians to be aware of dangerous situations in your neighborhoods and surrounding areas. Avoid operating bicycles, mini-bikes and ATV's on public roadways. Safety is the main objective."
Ferguson said that he has already informed the gas well companies that he and his deputies will not tolerate any unsafe activities in the county.
