Steubenville native wins thousands on 'Wheel of Fortune'

By NEWS9

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ohio

A Steubenville native won $5,000 dollars on Tuesday night's airing of  "Wheel of Fortune."

Natalie Liptak has had to keep her winnings a secret since she taped the show on Aug. 9.

Liptak lives in Pittsburgh but made the trip to Spot Bar in Steubenville to watch the game show with family and friends, many of whom included Steubenville city leaders.

She won two of the three toss ups and racked up some additional cash on the final puzzle.

"We went in thinking even if it was just a thousand dollars, we got a free trip out of it and got to visit with friends and explore Los Angeles. So, we were excited no matter what," said Liptak.

Liptak's father, Steubeville councilman Rick Perkins, after watching her, said it is something he never could have done.

"It was great. I mean she won some money, I think she handled herself very well. She looked tremendous on there. I was shocked because she kept saying that she was nervous but she didn't look nervous at all," said Perkins.

Liptak's mother Betty Perkins cheered more than anyone as she watched the show.

"I told her you can always just enjoy that and always have this in her memory. I'm very excited for her," she said.

Also at the watch party was Liptak's husband Chris, who secretly sent in the submission to get his wife on the show.

"I knew she would never do it and I said, 'hey it's a shot in the dark. What's the worst that can happen, they don't call her,'" said Chris Liptak.

He was with his wife during the taping but enjoyed the chance to sit back, relax and watch it again.

"She did awesome. Win or lose, I was proud of her. I couldn't ask for a better wife and she did an awesome job," said Chris Liptak.

The couple has not discussed what they would do with the cash but Natalie Liptak said she thinks they will use it on something practical.
