Unemployment up in West Virginia

OHIO COUNTY, W.Va. —

The latest numbers are out and unemployment is up for the month of July across West Virginia.


Statewide, the unemployment rate rose four tenths of a percentage point in the last month to 7.4 percent, or nearly 60,000 people. In the Northern Panhandle:




Officials with Work Force West Virginia, who tabulate the data, say the steel and coal industries play a big role in the numbers.


In Brooke County, Commissioner Tim Ennis hopes the numbers will go down there in the months to come with the expansion project at Wheeling-Nisshin.
