SALINEVILLE, Ohio —

Officials in Salineville are looking to crack down on speeders in town.

Police Chief Terry McElroy told NEWS9 he just doesn't have the manpower when it comes to catching speeders in the village, therefore he is hoping to bring a speed camera to town.

He said that camera will be able to clock the speed of the cars and if they are going over the set limit, it will snap a picture of their license plate and the ticket will be shipped in the mail.

With all of the routes coming into town, he said it can be very useful and cost-effective for the village.

"We're not interested in entrapment. We're going to advertise it. People are going to know it's going to be in place. So, it's just another tool. There are several roads we are going to put it on. We can move it around by the week if we want," McElroy said.

The camera hasn't been purchased yet. That decision will be made at Monday night's council meeting.

McElroy told NEWS9 that if he needs to, for example in the case of an emergency, he can go online and cancel a citation. Otherwise, he said the village will get 60 percent of each ticket issued.
