MINGO JUNCTION, Ohio —

As Mingo Junction continues to face financial problems, village officials are working to find some solutions. Their latest idea -- shutting off some of the street lights in town.

"There is a number of things. Not just the street lights. We are looking at every avenue to possibly save some money," said Frank Fuscardo, village administrator.

Fuscardo also mentioned discussion of combining the water and sewer plant into one for more savings.

As for the street lights, he said the entire village will not be left in the dark. He explained that committee members went around finding certain areas with excessive lights, identifying the ones that are not needed.

Some residents tell NEWS9 they are concerned about their safety, but Fuscardo said there is an option.

"Any place or anybody that wants a light put in, they have the ability to put that light in," said Fuscardo.

He said that light will have to be installed below the existing light and will cost the homeowner about $8 to $11 a month.

It is unclear how much this move could save the village, but Fuscardo said every little bit counts. He said he is tired of seeing opposition within the village.

"If anybody wants to get on board in a positive manner, get on board; anybody that doesn't, get out of the way," he said.

Fuscardo mentioned it's important for the village to keep control of water plant and all of these little changes will help accomplish that.

He said it is up to council to make the final decision about the lights.
