Village ordinance upsetting local businesses

CADIZ, Ohio —

Several businesses in Cadiz are upset after council posted a sign Wednesday morning banning trucks from parking in a nearby lot.

Employees and owners of the businesses told NEWS9 they are mad because they think it will take money away from them since, they said, a lot of their business comes from oil and gas workers driving trucks.

When DiAngelo's owner Bob Huffman showed up to work Wednesday, he noticed the sign.

"There's not enough parking as it is. So if you take away parking and they go other places, that's going to hurt myself, the other restaurants, local chiropractors and doctors. What are you supposed to do?" Huffman said.

Huffman explained that a lot of his customers and other locals drive trucks, especially those involved in the oil and gas industry. Business owners said the village should be more accommodating.

"I think they should create them a parking lot, as many vacant properties as there are in Cadiz," Bill Haun said.

While both Haun and Huffman realized the lot is only so big, they told NEWS9 they wish they had more of a say in the matter.

"We had no warning at all. We weren't asked to come to council to get our thoughts on the whole situation. They just did it without notice," Huffman said.

Huffman told NEWS9 he hopes the village will reevaluate its decision.

"You can't just ban a truck. You're going to have to ban a certain size vehicle to make it fair for everybody," he said.

NEWS9 did reach out to several officials from the village to get their response, however, the calls were returned as of Wednesday evening.
