JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ohio --
Steubenville Catholic Central High School is in the process of a major renovation of its auditorium, Lanman Hall.
Through grants, improvements have already been made to the make-up rooms, a new sound system has been installed, the ceiling has been painted and a new stage floor installed.
The next major project will be the replacement of the current seats and the installation of new carpeting. Alumni and members of the community can get involved by making a donation or may purchase a seat for $200 and an engraved plate will be placed on the arm of the seat signifying the purchaser.
More than 100 of the 966 seats have been purchased so far. The new auditorium will also be handicap-accessible.
"We try to develop the entire student," said high school Principal Rich Wilinski. "Not just academically and physically through athletics, but we also try to get the students to showcase their talents through vocals and drama."
Because of all the assistance from the Berkman Foundation, once complete, the auditorium will be called "The Berkman Theatre in Lanman Hall."
