HANCOCK COUNTY, W.Va—

A man was arrested early Sunday evening after officials said he tried to break into a local car dealership.
Officials said Matthew Mazza was arrested at gunpoint around 7:30 p.m. after he tried to break into the C. Hackett Car Dealership on Washington Street in Newell, W.Va.
He is now in the Northern Regional jail facing several charges.

"The guy tried breaking through the back window," said C. Hackett Vice President, Chaz Hackett. "He got stuck between the oil drum and the window. So he was stuck there until the cops came and found him."

Police got the tip from a neighbor who saw Mazza trying to get into the building through a hole in the back window.

Mazza wasn't stuck for long, but because of the broken glass, he suffered multiple cuts and had to be treated at a local hospital.

In fact, one of the workers at the dealership described the suspect as 'looking like he had been in a knife fight.'

"I couldn't believe it, it was kind of… kind of amazing," said Hackett. "I don't know, I don't know why. Sometimes people do things out of desperation."

Officials are calling this a "bold crime," because of how well known and visible the dealership is in the county.

Even though police caught the suspect in the act, officials said he is still claiming his innocence.

"They asked him what he was doing and he just said he didn't know. So I don't know what he was after," said Hackett.

Whatever he may be been after, officials at C. Hackett said they are taking precautions to make sure this doesn't happen again.

"We're actually going to end up putting glass blocking so next time no one can just break through the window," said Hackett.

Mazza is facing a number of charges, including breaking and entering, destruction of property and public intoxication.

The case is still under investigation.
