BROOKE COUNTY, W.Va. —
The incident happened at a Chesapeake Energy drilling site off Apple Pie Ridge.
According to Brooke County Emergency Management Agency Director Bob Fowler, the man was freed from the small security trailer by co-workers before emergency crews arrived at the scene.
The drilling site is in the area of the Ohio County Airport, where wind gusts of 66 mph were reported Monday morning. Fowler said that the high winds also knocked down tree branches and power lines.
In addition, fallen debris on Girty’s Point Road held up emergency crews from the Windsor Heights Volunteer Fire Department who were heading to the scene. West Liberty firefighters were also dispatched to the scene.
“All the areas usually dispatch at least two fire departments not only for the manpower and resources," Fowler said. "Today was a perfect example where on fire department wasn’t able to make it there because of the road conditions.”
The man was not hurt and refused treatment, officials said.
