Man charged with inducing panic after prank

By NEWS9

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio —

Steubenville police have charged a man with inducing panic after a prank scared a woman into thinking her young children had been kidnapped.

A police report says the woman parked her van on Lawson Avenue and was on the porch of a house in the 700 block when she saw her van, with her baby and toddler still inside, drive away.

Police said a family friend, Robert Lefnefsky, had driven her van off hoping, he said, she would “freak out.”

Lefnefsky told police he didn’t know the children were in the van when he drove off.

The children are 2-years-old and 10-months-old. The children were not hurt, but police said they and their mother were upset and scared.
