BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio —
A Marshall County man is dead Sunday after his car overturned in Belmont County and became submerged under water, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Troopers said James Brian Parks, 43, of McMechen, W.Va., crashed his car on U.S. Route 40 near milepost 7, west of Morristown, Ohio.
Troopers responded to the scene about 12:23 a.m. to find Parks trapped inside his car, which was overturned and completely underwater in a pond, officials said.
Several troopers helped remove Parks from the vehicle and performed CPR, troopers said. Barnesville, Morristown and Bethesda fire departments also responded to the crash and attempted to treat Parks, officials said.
The Assistant Belmont County Coroner later pronounced him dead at the scene. Troopers said they suspect alcohol was a factor in the crash.
A passenger who escaped the sinking vehicle was treated at Ohio Valley Medical Center for near drowning injuries, officials said.
The crash is under investigation.
