Man jailed following pursuit, damage to sheriff cruiser

BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio —

One man is behind bars following a vehicle pursuit and a crash with a sheriff's cruiser in Belmont County early Monday morning.

Sheriff Dave Lucas said the incident started in the Barton Road area around 1:30 a.m. A deputy was responding to a domestic disturbance call when he passed a vehicle leaving the home. The deputy attempted to pull over the driver, Delbert Wines, 55, but he refused to stop, according to Lucas.

Lucas said an on-duty sergeant got involved, positioning his cruiser in front of Wines’ car, who proceeded to hit the sheriff’s cruiser twice before he was stopped.

Wines was arrested and booked into the Belmont County Jail without bond. Lucas said he's currently facing five charges, including felonious assault, failure to comply, resisting arrest, persistent disorderly conduct and operating a vehicle under the influence.
