STEUBENVILLE, Ohio —

A man remains in the Jefferson County Jail on felony theft charges after police said he stole at least $1,000 worth of merchandise from a Steubenville store.

Police said Jeffrey Ball, of Marshall County, W.Va., stole at least $1,000 worth of merchandise from Walmart.

Police arrested Ball on Lincoln Avenue on Friday night after they pulled over a car he was riding in along with another man. Police said Ball matched the description of a man who walked out of the store with a shopping cart full of merchandise.

During an arraignment on Monday, a judge increased Ball's bond from $5,000 to $10,000 because Ball is not from the immediate area.

Ball is also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia because police found a pipe that is commonly to smoke crack cocaine in the vehicle at the time of his arrest.

Ball's next court appearance is scheduled for next Friday.
