By Briona Arradondo and  NEWS9

COLUMBIANA COUNTY, Ohio —

A Columbiana County man is headed to prison for assaulting and robbing an elderly World War II veteran after pleading guilty to three felony charges Thursday.

Joseph Eltringham, 45, pleaded guilty to aggravated robbery, felonious assault and intimidation before a common pleas court judge. He faces a potential of 21 years in prison, but Assistant Prosecutor Ryan Weikart said he recommended a 10-year sentence for his charges.

The assault was reported in August 2011 at an East Rochester home. Columbiana County Sheriff Raymond Stone said they took a 911 call, and his deputies found Robert Kastelic, 86, severely beaten at his home. Kastelic was later hospitalized for his injuries, the incident report stated.

Eltringham also served time in the military and was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder, according to the defense attorney.

Weikart said he is pleased this is one step closer to closure for the Kastelic's family.

Eltringham will be sentenced in common pleas court  Nov. 1.
