By NEWS9

WELLSBURG, W.Va. -- A man who pleaded guilty to two counts of robbery in Brooke County Circuit Court in September was sentenced Friday.

Aaron Hartley was sentenced to 10 years behind bars for each count of robbery. He was ordered to self-surrender on Feb. 4, 2013. He was ordered back on home confinement until he is scheduled to report to the West Virginia Northern Regional Jail.

During the sentencing hearing, Hartley issued an apology to the two 87-year-old victims that were home when he broke into their house in December of 2011.

"How extremely sorry I am to (the victims) and their whole family for all the pain and fear I've caused them," said Hartley. "Now, the young man that stands before you is not the same man that stood in front of you the first time. Now I'm clean of drugs, and that's the first time I've been able to say that since the age of 12."

Court officials said Hartley will be eligible to file a Rule 35 motion to modify his sentence after three requirements are fulfilled. The order filed in court said a Rule 35 motion can only be granted after Hartley serves 10 years of his sentence, pays $500 restitution, and victims are no longer living.
