JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ohio —

Officials are investigating after a man was found with a gunshot wound Tuesday afternoon.

The man was airlifted by medical helicopter to Ohio Valley Medical Center in Wheeling.

The man was found near coal unloading and loading docks near the Rayland Marina on Old Route 7. Officials said a worker from the coal area heard a crash around 1:30 p.m. and saw the car. When the worker ran up to the vehicle, he saw blood in the vehicle and around it then called 911.

Jefferson County Sheriff Fred Abdalla said the man may have suffered a bullet wound to his head.

As of 4:15 p.m., officials were trying to determine who the man is. He was not carrying any identification and was driving a rental car out of Columbus.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification is processing evidence from the vehicle. Anyone with information is asked to call police.
