BROOKE COUNTY, W.Va. —

A man wanted on numerous charges out of Brooke County and accused of back-to-back robberies at the same Weirton business in 2011 has been captured in South Carolina.

U.S. marshals arrested 36-year-old Chris Popovich, of Weirton, on Thursday in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

A warrant for Popovich initially went out because officials said he didn't show up for court to face charges of first-degree robbery, attempted first-degree robbery, possession with intent to deliver crack cocaine and conspiracy to transport a controlled substance into West Virginia.

The indictment for those charges came down from a grand jury in November, but stem from alleged incidents that happened onĀ  April 21 and 22, 2011. Officials said Popovich is accused of robbing people at the Weirton Walmart, and surveillance video caught one of the robberies on camera because of where it took place in the parking lot.

The drug charges were filed after investigators said they found Popovich with crack cocaine during their investigation.
The court ordered the latest warrant for Popovich's arrest when he didn't show up for a hearing to address a possible plea agreement in the original case.

Chief Deputy Chuck Jackson of the Brooke County Sheriff's Office said Popovich was "caught through the database utilizing license plate numbers and such. Basically we work in conjunction with the U.S. Marshals Service on a lot of our fugitive cases."

Officials said Popovich was arrested without incident in Myrtle Beach and he remained in jail Friday at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center in Conway, S.C.

Popovich waived extradition so he will be transported back to Brooke County as soon as local authorities can head down there to pick him up.
