WHEELING, W.Va. —

The last defendant from the David Kidd drug organization – a group that illegally brought hundreds of thousands of pain pills to the Ohio Valley -- was sentenced Friday in United States District Court in Wheeling.

U.S. Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld, II, said John Burress, 40, of Martins Ferry, was sentenced to 18 months in prison to be followed by two years of supervised release.

On May 30, Burress pleaded guilty to conspiracy to launder monetary instruments.

The investigation into the drug organization determined that Kidd purchased at least four vehicles from Burress, who was a car salesman at Staffalino's Chevrolet in Martins Ferry.

Investigators said Kidd bought the vehicles with money obtained from the sale of oxycodone pills. During two of the vehicle sales, Kidd paid Burress with cash and Burress put the autos titles in someone else's name.

According to a news release from the U.S. Attorney's office, Burress is free on bond and will self-report to a designated federal institution on Jan. 30.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney John C. Parr.
