Marshall County School Consolidation

Two elementary schools will be slated to close entirely. Others will be moved around all to help students learn.

Under the plan both Sherrard and Limestone Elementaries will close. The students will get a brand new elementary that will have newer equipment for today's technology. The new elementary is expected to cost more than seven million dollars.

On Tuesday, the architect will present the final expenses for the entire project, which includes upgrades to most of the schools in the county.

The plan also calls for fewer grades in each school which school leaders say will help with student achievements.

"You're going to have a group of teachers and support personnel who have the expertise, training and experience to deliver services specific to that age group, said Marshall County Schools Superintendent, Fred Renzella.

The plan also includes many changes through out the county school system. For example the sixth grade students will be moved into the junior high schools. If the budget is approved on Tuesday there are still several hurdles to cross, including a vote during one of the 2006 elections.
