Martins Ferry Inducts 12 To Hall Of Honor

MARTINS FERRY, Ohio —

The contributions of 12 people in Martins Ferry will now live on at the city's new Hall of Honor.

Community members gathered at Martins Ferry's new school complex for the hall's inaugural ceremony Sunday afternoon.

The committee honored 12 people, 10 of them posthumously, for their contributions to the city.

The inductees include Betty Zane, Lou Groza and Ebenezer Martin among others.

Inductee Robert Forsythe, known for designing several Martins Ferry buildings, said he was shocked to hear the committee wanted to include him in the Hall of Honor.

"When I got the information, that I'd been chosen, I called them and told them they made a mistake. That they should get somebody more deserving. And they said no, they wanted me to be here," said Forsythe.

Organizers said about 70 people were nominated for the Hall of Honor this year. Next year, only one or two people will be inducted.
