Massive Barn Fire Under Investigation

A Jefferson County barn was destroyed by fire Wednesday evening.

Neighbors said someone was burning brush nearby when the fire spread to the barn on Twp. Road 378 in Island Creek Township

Resident Daniel Shaffer said he saw heavy black smoke from his home 2 miles away.

"I called my parents to make sure everything was OK and they said the Martins' garage had exploded," said Shaffer.

Pleasant Hill Fire Chief Dominick Andreozzi said the barn housed motor engines and unknown oils and grease which contributed to the intensity of the fire.

No one was injured, but the structure is considered a total loss.

The American Red Cross was at the scene to assist. The fire is under investigation.
