MONROE COUNTY, Ohio —

A Monroe County family is one of many throughout the area which has lived without power for a week and with no clear end in sight.

"It's worse than miserable," said Carolyn Fox, of Sardis.

Fox said she was sitting on her front porch last Friday when, out of nowhere, "All of a sudden, you heard trees. Just 'crack, crack, crack.'"

She said she watched as rain started to downpour in a flurry, then a tree just up the street fell and snapped the power lines in two.

"They came out, and they put the electric lines back together up there, and they just left, and we haven't seen anyone since," she said.

Since then, she and her family have been trying to make do and said in this nearly unbearable heat, it's hard to get by.

A few days ago, the family bought a generator for their Dogskin Road home, and it's cost about $50 to run it. And the lone working fan running from the generator seems like just a tease.

Their well serves as their primary means of water for their home, but without power, the type of well they have is out of commission. So the family has been boiling water filtered from their pool to bathe and wash clothes and dishes. They're also trying to keep their four pet parrots cool through the heat this week.

But above all, Fox said the most frustrating part is she simply wants a clear answer on when she can expect power to be restored.

"And the worst part is you can't get an answer from anyone," she said.

Fox said the family is hoping to have power restored by the weekend, but she said she was told there is really no estimated time.
